Moody Iceland Engagement Photos at Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi & Skógafoss

When Ashlin and Caleb reached out to plan their engagement session in Iceland, they said they wanted something raw, real, and wild. As an experienced Iceland engagement photographer I immediately knew what locations to recommend.

We met near Seljalandsfoss on a moody, overcast afternoon where the skies hung heavy and gray, and the air smelled like rain and moss. The kind of Icelandic day that doesn’t try to pretend it's summer, but instead leans into the drama and the mist. Perfect for two adventurous souls wrapped in Icelandic sweaters and rain jackets, ready to get soaked and smile through it.

Ashlin and Caleb didn’t hesitate to walk the slippery path behind the falls, grinning the whole time as sheets of water crashed around them. Their laughter echoed off the rock walls, their hair tangled with wind and spray, and I snapped away as they embraced the chaos and the cold.

From there, we wandered to Gljúfrabúi, the hidden waterfall just a short walk away. Tucked behind a moss-covered canyon wall, Gljúfrabúi always feels like a secret—even when you know it's there. Ashlin and Caleb stepped through the narrow crevice, the sound of rushing water growing louder with every step. Inside, surrounded by damp stone and echoing mist, they held each other close while spray danced through the air. It was intimate, wet, and undeniably magical.

Last, we drove a bit further east to the mighty Skógafoss. By then, their clothes were damp, their boots were muddy, and the light had taken on that soft, cinematic gray-blue that only exists in Iceland. Standing beneath the roaring wall of water, wrapped in each other's arms, Ashlin and Caleb looked like they'd stepped straight out of a Norse folktale—weathered, wild, and completely in love.

This session was a reminder that sometimes the best moments happen when you're uncomfortable, wet, windblown, and still completely present. It wasn’t a “perfect weather” shoot—but it was absolutely perfect for them. Their engagement photos in Iceland turned out candid, raw and full of real emotions.

Ashlin and Caleb, thank you for braving the elements with joy and curiosity. Iceland showed up for you, and so did your love.
